Who we are and who this covers

Marlow is a homework and reading helper for children, run by John Archuleta (Marlow), 2880 Bicentennial Pkwy, Ste 100 #1090, Henderson, NV 89044. Questions about privacy go to privacy@learnwithmarlow.com.

This policy covers the Marlow app for iPhone and iPad and the servers behind it. Four kinds of people use Marlow: parents, children (accounts a parent creates), tutors, and staff of partner libraries.

How we use information

We use information only to run Marlow:

We do not sell personal information, show ads, or use children's information for advertising or tracking.

Tutors and library staffOnly what is part of a session or request they take part in. Library administrators also see their library's tutor roster, help queue and reports about their tutors.Tutoring and keeping a library's program safe

We may also share information when the law requires it or to protect someone's safety. If Marlow is ever sold or merged, information may transfer to the new owner, who must honor this policy.

Children's privacy

Marlow is made for children, and a child cannot create an account alone. A parent creates the child's account and, by doing so, consents to the collection described in this policy. Before the account can be created, the parent must confirm in the app that they are the child's parent or legal guardian and agree to this policy.

We collect only what the child's lessons need. Children's information is never sold, never used for advertising and never made public.

A parent can:

To do any of these, open your child's page in the app and use Delete [child's name]'s Account to delete the account and everything saved to it, or write to privacy@learnwithmarlow.com. If we learn we collected a child's information without a parent's consent, we will delete it.

Tutors, libraries and safety

Tutors are adults with their own accounts. A tutor can work with a child only after a parent approves the connection, or when a tutor from a partner library accepts a help request that the child or parent sent to that library. Tutor profiles, including credentials, are written by the tutor. Marlow does not verify them, and parents see them before approving a connection.

A parent or child can report a tutor's conduct. The report's text goes to an AI model that sorts it by category and severity, and a high-severity report can suspend the tutor right away while it is reviewed. Library administrators can see reports about tutors in their own library.

Voice clips and whiteboard drawings in a session are visible to the people in that session.

Permissions, retention, security and contact

Device permissions. Marlow asks for the camera to scan homework, the microphone for Read Aloud and for voice clips in tutoring sessions, and speech recognition for Read Aloud. Each can be turned off in iOS Settings; the matching feature then stops working. Marlow shows reminders from the app itself on your device and does not use remote push notifications.

Retention. We keep information while the account is active. Parents and tutors can delete their own account at any time from the Account menu on their dashboard, and a parent can delete a child's account from that child's page. When an account is deleted, its information is deleted, including homework photos and voice clips. Deleting a parent's account also deletes the child accounts that only that parent manages. Copies in routine backups may remain for a short time before they are overwritten. Deleting an account does not cancel an App Store subscription; that is managed in your Apple ID settings. Information stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.

Security. Data travels over encrypted connections and is stored with access rules that limit each person to their own family's records. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Changes. If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell parents in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
